Job Description
The Chief of Staff for Physicians supports our President and Chief Medical Officer in the delivery of strategic initiatives related to the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. This person is responsible for managing the enterprise-wide professional services / physician practices at PathGroup. This leader will inspire a high-performing culture and drive professional service excellence and best-in-class service execution, cost efficiency, productivity and profitability across the practices.
The Chief of Staff will act as a strategic partner and integrator, ensuring effective communication, and consistent progress on high-impact initiatives that protect our organization and support our physicians. This is a high-impact role suited for someone with strong business acumen, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for operational excellence in clinical quality.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Establish short-term and long-term strategic plans to drive top-line growth and margin accretion across operations. Ensure professional service capability and flexibility to grow both organically and inorganically.
- Create annual physician budgets for each physician practice in the overall enterprise.
- Lead and oversee special projects and cross-departmental initiatives, ensuring alignment with company goals and timely delivery.
- Assist CMO in advancement of internal leadership for digital pathology, in line with the overall company strategy and in a way that drives efficiency and a competitive advantage in service / TAT all the way through diagnosis reporting.
- Partner with direct reports of the CMO to help move their projects forward by removing barriers, tracking initiatives, and building a culture of accountability within the team.
Operational Excellence
- Provide a support structure to multiply impact for both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
- Support operational due diligence and acquisition integration for future M&A opportunities.
- Ensure successful adherence to policies, procedures, objectives, and initiatives as related to professional services.
- Manage executive priorities, assigns and ensures follow-through on action items.
- Support continued user acceptance and deployment of digital pathology processes and capital assets in line with the enterprise-wide strategy.
- Analyze industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and utilize emerging opportunities.
Communication & Alignment
- Act as a liaison and representative for CMO when working with other leaders, teams, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with leadership and others to identify and communicate barriers or gaps in physician practice professionals' and financial vitality.
- Communicate performance, plans and progress with executive leadership on a regular basis. Consistently deliver a clear communications program regarding priorities / initiatives to specific employee audiences on an ongoing, proactive basis.
- Track and monitor progress on key Physician initiatives.
- Support preparation for internal and external meetings, including but not limited to board presentations, and workforce communications.
Other Duties
- Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
- Manage and execute incentive compensation plan for participant cohorts of physicians, inclusive of data management, quarterly performance reporting, and collaboration with business analytics and payroll.
- Become familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the privacy and Security policies.
- Serve as a seasoned PathGroup resource person, handling inquiries, developing action plans, and assisting with preparation.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

EDUCATION & LICENSURE
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Degree in Healthcare Administration is preferred or rich experience in physician practice management preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of relevant experience in operations, legal, HR, consulting, or strategic project management.
- Proven experience working with or supporting C-suite executives.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Clinical Lab Testing, Anatomic Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Molecular Pathology operations and processes is preferred.
- Outstanding emotional intelligence and communication skills.
- Strategic mindset with fast-paced problem-solving skills.
- Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.
- High level of discretion, integrity, and executive presence.
